About
Fotolane started in 2023 as an internal tool for a photo archive that had outgrown its own hosting. It does one job: take an image once and give it back in whatever shape a page needs.
We keep the surface small on purpose. There is no dashboard builder, no asset manager and no plugin marketplace — an upload endpoint, a transform grammar in the URL, and an edge cache in front of both. Everything else belongs in your application.
The service is operated by a two-person team from Tallinn. Storage lives in Estonia; delivery is handled by regional edge partners so that images land close to the people looking at them. We run two edge networks side by side rather than one, so that an outage at a partner is something our components route around, not something you have to explain to your visitors.

Technical questions and abuse reports: support@fotolane.eu. We answer on working days, usually within one.
New accounts are opened by hand. Tell us the domain you will serve from and a rough monthly volume.
The photographs
The three sample photographs on the front page are public-domain works, shared through Unsplash and kept on Wikimedia Commons: Tallinn Old Town under snow by Ilya Orehov, the Viru bog trail by Alexandr Schwarz, and the Rummu quarry from the air by Ivars Krutainis.
The typeface
The site is set in Recursive by Arrow Type, used under the SIL Open Font License.
